He provided voices for the TV series Naruto from 2002 to 2007 and Naruto: Shippuden from 2007 to 2010. He has also provided his voice for video games and for the 2014 film Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie. He appeared in Sharknado in 2013 as a school bus driver. Rist was nominated for a Young Artist Award for Best Young Actor – TV Special in 1981. He has been associated with the bands Wonderboy, Cockeyed Ghost, The Andersons, Nice Guy Eddie, Steve Barton and the Oblivion Click, KingsizeMaybe, and Jeff Caudill & The Goodtimes Band.
