With headquarters in El Paso, Texas, the business has turned into an independent oil refiner and marketer, which owns two refineries with a combined capacity of 155,000 barrels of crude oil per day, along with approximately 225 convenience stores in the Southwestern U.S. A graduate of Baylor, he started his career as a certified public accountant before running finances for oil refineries across the Southwest. In the late 1990’s, he decided to set up his own company, Western Refining, and not a full decade later, in 2006, he took the company public. Aside from his business career, Paul Foster is an active philanthropist who among many charity actions he has given $50 million to assist the creation of the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso, Texas in 2007.
