Computers & Automation was founded, published and edited by Edmund C. Berkeley. In 1964 Patrick and his friend Fred Kirch founded the International Data Corporation. IDC is responsible for the production of a computer industry data base, as well as a published newsletter, called the EDP Industry & Market Report. After that he started a weekly newspaper Computerworld in 1967, he currently lives in Atherton, California and Hollis, New Hampshire. He is the father of four children. Patrick gave a $350 million dollar donation along wife his second wife Lore Harp McGovern to the Institute for Brain Research at MIT. McGovern serves Society for Science & the Public’s board of trustees, and is a trustee for MIT.
