Patterson decided to hand over part of his role at the company in September 2013, giving the president’s job to Cerner veteran Zane Burke. However, he still remains CEO and chairman. Aside from Cerner, Neal Patterson co-owned Major League Soccer club Sporting Kansas City, and was a devoted fan of Ayn Rand. Neal Patterson died on July 9, 2017.
