He was grew up in Camden, New Jersey before attending Temple University in Philadelphia where he was classmates with Bill Cosby. He graduated with a degree in biology then went on to Dickinson School of Law where he graduated first in class. Over the next several decades, Katz’s career spanned several industries from law to finance to entrepreneurship. He earned the vast majority of his fortune from real estate development. Over the years he spent time as the owner or the New Jersey Devils of the NHL and the New Jersey Nets of the NBA. After receiving an honorary degree from Temple, Lewis Katz announced that he was donating $25 million to the school of medicine.
