Chloe Bennet Net Worth
Early Life
Chloe Bennet was born Chloé Michelle Wang on April 18, 1992, in Chicago, Illinois. Her mother, Stephanie Crane, is an internist, and her father, Bennet Wang, is an investment banker. Bennet is Chinese, and Stephanie is Anglo-American. Chloe is one of eight siblings; she has four biological brothers, one adopted brother, and two foster brothers. She graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep in 2010.
Career
When she was 15 years old, Bennet moved to China in pursuit of a singing career. There, she lived in her paternal grandmother’s home and studied the Mandarin language. She moved to Los Angeles in 2010, and that year she hosted the TeenNick series “The Nightlife.” In 2011, Chloe released the singles “Every Day in Between” and “Uh Oh” and appeared in the music videos “BigBang: Tonight” and “Chase Jordan: Lose Control (Take a Sip).” After she began pursuing an acting career, Chloe started going by the last name Bennet, her father’s first name. From 2012 to 2013, Chloe had a recurring role as Hailey on the musical drama “Nashville,” appearing in seven episodes. From 2013 to 2020, she starred as Skye / Daisy Johnson / Quake on the Marvel superhero drama “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” which aired 136 episodes over seven seasons and earned People’s Choice Award nominations for Favorite New TV Drama (2014) and Favorite Network Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show (2015). Bennet received two Teen Choice Award nominations and two Kids’ Choice Award nominations for her performance. She reprised her role in the web series “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Slingshot” (2016), and the animated projects “Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors” (2018), “Marvel Rising: Initiation” (2018), “Marvel Rising: Heart of Iron” (2019), and “Marvel Rising: Chasing Ghosts” (2019).
Personal Life
Chloe dated actor Austin Nichols from 2014 to 2017. Austin played the ex-boyfriend of Chloe’s character on “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” A 2018 blog post on the Child Mind Institute website stated that Bennet “has anxiety, depression and ADHD.” The post included a quote from Chloe that read, “My advice to you is you are not alone. Do not feel ashamed for being this way. You are not crazy. The power of social media can be used for good.” Bennet has said that the American TV and film industry is racist against people of Asian descent and that she wasn’t booking roles when she was using her birth name. She stated in an Instagram comment to a fan (which has since been deleted), “Changing my last name doesn’t change the fact that my BLOOD is half Chinese, that I lived in China, speak Mandarin or that I was culturally raised both American and Chinese. It means I had to pay my rent, and Hollywood is racist and wouldn’t cast me with a last name that made them uncomfortable.” In 2016, Chloe told “The Daily Beast,” “The first audition I went on after I changed my name, I got booked. So that’s a pretty clear little snippet of how Hollywood works.”
Awards and Nominations
In 2017, Chloe was honored with the Visionary Award from the East West Players, the oldest Asian American theatre organization in the U.S. At the organization’s annual gala, Bennet dedicated the award to “all the little girls who want to be a superhero.” “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” earned Chloe Teen Choice Award nominations for Choice TV Actress: Action (2018) and Choice Summer TV Star: Female (2019), Kids’ Choice Award nominations for Favorite TV Actress (2015) and Favorite Family TV Actress (2016), and a MovieGuide Award nomination for Most Inspiring Performance in Television (2019). In 2020, she received an Alliance of Women Film Journalists EDA Female Focus Award nomination for Best Animated Female and a Hawaii Film Critics Society Award nomination for Best Vocal/Motion Capture Performance for “Abominable.”
